The Reimagine Magnolia Village Beautification Project

Imagine Magnolia Village with more comfortable seating, gorgeous flowering hanging baskets, festive seasonal banners, wreaths for the holidays, and landscape and sidewalk maintenance that will keep our beautiful Magnolia trees more resilient, healthy, and thriving.

This image is now a reality due to the launch of the Reimagine Magnolia Village Beautification Project. The project is overseen and managed by the volunteer Magnolia Beautification Committee, which is part of the Magnolia Chamber of Commerce.

The project has five distinct phases that include most of the streetscapes of Magnolia Village. Phase I-III were reviewed, approved and permitted by the city of Seattle in 2019 & 2020. Private donations helped to complete Phases I ahead of schedule and all dollars needed to complete Phases II & III have been raised. Funding for Phases I-III include $70,000 in Neighborhood Matching Fund (NMF) grants awarded by the city of Seattle Department of Neighborhoods.

Fundraising continues for the Phases IV-V of the project.

The scope of Phase IV will include two new benches on 33rd Ave between W. Wheeler Street to W. McGraw Street. The two new benches will face each other and placed in front of the entrance to the “Starbucks” office building, directly across from Serendipity. Phase IV will also include a new parklet along the Uptown Espresso building on 33rd Ave. W, between W. Lynn Steet and W. McGraw Street. The parklet will include new trees protected by porous pavement, flower poles, benches, and table with chairs with red umbrellas.

The scope of Phase V will include streetscape improvements on 32nd Ave from W. Lynn Street to W. Smith Street. There will be a new conversation area that includes three benches in front of Mindspring Wealth Advisors, LLC as well as new flower poles on both sides of 32nd Ave W. Several trees along 32nd from W. McGraw Street to W. Smith Street will be protected by porous pavement. And, sidewalks will be replaced and made much safer by the city of Seattle and its “sidewalk fund.”

Please join us in making Magnolia Village a welcoming, safe, environmentally sustainable, and engaging neighborhood business district.

A Beautiful Magnolia Village – a jewel of a neighborhood

Magnolia is an active, family-oriented community attracting residents of all ages. The goal of the Reimagine Magnolia Village Beautification Project is to enhance the “Village” main streets and improve the attractiveness and safety of the streetscapes in the core of the Village. The results are improving the shopping, dining, and pedestrian experiences for residents and visitors. and for all who enjoy the Farmer’s Market, Classic Auto Show, Magnolia Summerfest, Vino in the Village, Halloween, Winterfest, and many other community functions.

The project, now in its final stages, is making our Village look and feel better while enhancing livability, sustainability, and commerce. The improvements are increasing more interaction among neighbors, improve neighborhood life, and creating a unique neighborhood look and feel that attracts new residents and businesses and supports both economic development and a sense of community. Importantly, the Magnolia Beautification Project is a strategy to maintain and enhance the character of the Village for decades to come.

City of Seattle Engagement and Involvement – permitting and matching grant support

Since the launch of the Reimagine Magnolia Beautification Project in 2018, the MBC has worked side-by-side with the city of Seattle to establish a credible community development presence. The MBC has developed trust and confidence with various permitting departments and is dedicated to fostering long-term engagement with local merchants and neighborhood stakeholders. The project’s phases include input from a wide range of neighbors during the planning phases and was informed by decades of expertise and experience by the MBC in developing publicly funded projects. The MBC is reaching out on a regular basis to city officials and public agencies for input, advice, and counsel regarding best practices for this type of streetscape improvement project.

The result has been approved permitting of Phase I, II, and III of the project. In addition to an approved permit by the city of Seattle’s Department of Transportation, the city recognized that the Magnolia Beautification Project aligns with the Seattle Department of Neighborhoods principle that city and community partnerships strengthen Seattle. The city ensures that the plan meets the Seattle’s environmental and sustainability requirements.

Support the Magnolia Beautification Project – make the change!

The support for funding Phase I-III of the Magnolia Beautification Project has been overwhelmingly positive. Gifts have ranged from $10 dollars in cash, to two anonymous donors each giving $25,000, to donation amounts in between. Due to the quick generosity of neighbors and our local merchants, Phases I, II & III are completed.

Donations are now being actively sought to officially launch Phase IV and V in 2023, which will complete the installations and support maintenance of the streetscape improvements.  Donate Now. All donations of $2500 or more will be permanently recognized in Magnolia Village.
